Acrobatic Gymnastics
Acro gymnastics brings together strength, flexibility and trust. Gymnasts work in pairs or small groups, building routines around lifts, balances and dynamic moves, set to music. It’s a discipline that rewards teamwork as much as skill — partners learn to rely on each other, communicate under pressure, and celebrate progress together.
What a routine actually looks like
Routines combine partner balances (one gymnast supporting another in a held position), dynamic elements (throws and catches between partners), and individual tumbling, all linked together and choreographed to music — similar in spirit to a dance routine, but built on gymnastics and trust rather than steps alone.

Our Competitive Acro Squad
Our Acro Squad trains year-round and competes at Regional, National and International level. Our Acrobatic Gymnastics programme has a strong track record of success, with our gymnasts being crowned Regional and National Champions. We are also incredibly proud to currently have four gymnasts selected for the England Squad, reflecting the high standard of coaching and athlete development within our programme.
Beyond the medals, our Acrobatic Gymnastics programme helps gymnasts develop lasting friendships, build trust with their partners, and gain confidence through performing and competing. They also learn valuable life skills such as commitment, teamwork, resilience and discipline, making it a rewarding pathway for gymnasts who are ready to take their training to the next level.
Is the Squad right for your child?
Places in the Acro Squad are by invitation. Gymnasts are usually spotted in our general or artistic classes once they’ve built the core strength, flexibility and focus needed to train safely at this level, and our coaches will contact you directly when we think your child is ready to progress.
As a guide, gymnasts joining the squad are typically:
- Aged 6+ years
- Already training with us in general classes
- Able to commit to more training than recreational training sessions a week
.

How does my child join acro?
Our Acrobatics Squads are invite only. Our coaching team regularly observes gymnasts in our recreational classes, looking for those who show the potential and attributes suited to acrobatic gymnastics.
If your child is identified, you will receive an email inviting them to attend a trial session, along with all of the relevant information. During the trial, our coaches will assess whether the squad is the right fit for your child.
Following the trial, your child may be offered a three-month trial in one of our Acrobatics Squads. If they are not quite ready, they will simply continue in their current recreational class and may be considered again in the future as they continue to develop.
Is my child ready?
If your coach hasn’t mentioned Acrobatics yet, your child may simply still be developing the foundation skills needed for squad training. If you think they would enjoy the discipline, you’re always welcome to speak to your coach after a session.
Our Acro coaching team regularly observes gymnasts in their usual recreational classes. If they feel your child is ready to be considered for Acrobatics, they will contact you directly with information about a trial session.
What is the time commitment?
Squad training is a significant step up from our recreational programme. Depending on the squad, gymnasts train anywhere between 3 and 16 hours per week, with additional training sessions sometimes scheduled in the lead-up to competitions or performances.
As acrobatic gymnastics is performed in pairs and groups, regular attendance is essential. Every gymnast plays an important role in their partnership, so we expect squad members to attend all training sessions.
Before your child joins a squad, we will always discuss the training commitment with you to ensure it is the right fit for both your gymnast and your family.
